Show Up for Ordinary to Achieve the Extraordinary

How we navigate the spectrum of workouts (especially the ordinary ones) can set us up for a fitness journey that is satisfying and creates resilience to handle the harder days.

We have a way of conveying to clients how to set up expectations, or a big-picture view, of what their workouts may look like on the spectrum of “meh” to extraordinary. And, as coaches who help provide solutions, we work on how we can take this macro-view down to a practical level:

Expect that 60% of your workouts will just be kind of average or ordinary, 20% will be fantastic and surprise you, and 20% may be kind of “blah” and maybe even feel like you’re underperforming.

Over our combined couple of decades of coaching clients for longevity, both in life and in training at the gym, we’ve found this to be pretty dang accurate. ????

You won’t always walk out of the gym feeling like you had the best workout ever. After all, what is “best” if we can’t compare to “average” or “worst” … ? And absolutely, you can work out on average days with a mind toward those exceptional ones; like Clear says, the ordinary days will, in large part, prepare you to achieve the extraordinary ones.

BUT we also have to keep in mind that the rough ones WILL happen as well. Sometimes it’s because we are under-recovered from life, a previous workout, or just from managing too much at once. And sometimes, we feel great and show up to do equally great work, and it just.doesn’t.happen. ????????

Keep showing up and stockpiling those “average” days, and practice having realistic expectations for the phenomenal AND “meh” ones, and you’ll see that the average ???????????? the exceptional ones just keep getting incrementally better — and the ???? ones just don’t knock you off track ????️ like they used to. (Hey, hey – this kind of sounds like one of our core values – building RESILIENCE!)

Keep on chugging, and keep training ???? for LIFE. … … … ????????. Don’t be afraid to imagine the extraordinary ???? but then ???????? ???????????? ???????????????? to achieve the extraordinary. It doesn’t happen by accident.
