This is a fun nutrition habit to work on (yes, we are grownups, and we are calling eating your veggies “fun” ???? … but do stay with us). It’s “FUN” to shift your focus on adding in foods you like, rather than taking anything away. ???? Why: There are SO MANY reasons to eat more plants, but here are a quick few:
???? Improving dietary fiber and micronutrient content to your diet contributes to better health.
???? Chewing more/different foods is also helpful for people who struggle with overeating – the calorie density of fruits/vegetables tends to be much lower than processed foods, and the nutrient density is much higher. Win/win. ????
How: Keep it simple!
⭕ Increase what you’re already eating to a few times per day. Only like 3 different fruits and veggies? No problem. Eat them twice in a day.
⭕ If you need to avoid boredom, alternate between eating them raw, roasting or steaming veggies, putting fruit into a mixed fruit salad, and eating canned as well.
⭕ Alternatively, you can simply eat a larger portion each time you’d already be consuming your plant friends. ????
???? Goal – Move toward eating either 1 fist size ???? portion (vegetable) or 1 cupped hand size portion (fruit) 5x each day. Remember, ➡️ better ⬅️ is the goal – so build upon each day by first practicing consistency and then adding onto that!
