Romanian Deadlifts – or RDLs. Do you love them? Do you know about them? Want to learn a few things about a movement that would very likely be a solid one to add in to your rotation?
Here are some facts we know and benefits we have confirmed in the last 20 years of training a wide spectrum of people:
???? When intelligently programmed, based on injury history, movement competency, and desired training effect, RDLs can aid in:
✅ Building muscle through the posterior chain.
✅ Reinforcing strong movement patterns – this allows us to keep our clients progressing via introduction of other hip hinge movements; these are also movement patterns most people will do in real life – aka functional fitness.
✅ Injury prevention – people often “tweak” their bodies in their everyday setting. This movement strengthens the often-weak low back muscles; and when those are the muscles that have been tweaked, the RDL, with the help of an expert coach, can be used to get people moving carefully again, which is one of the most important factors in a quicker recovery from back strain.
???? RDLs can be as simple as using a light resistance band to loading up a barbell heavy with additional band resistance.
???? Whatever the population we are training or the training needs and goals, these are very likely a staple movement, and for good reason!
???? Have you trained the RDL before? What variation do you like best?
???? If you want an expert program and set of eyes to ensure you’re doing these properly, shoot us a message. Regardless – get moving! ????
