???? Create a simple morning routine.
???? Prioritize moving your body.
???? Slow down when you eat.
???? Find small ways to connect with others.
???? Journal something – even if it seems silly!
Everyone spends their time doing something. And good news: There’s a really good chance you don’t do things exactly as you’ve always done them. Even the most stubborn (or steadfast!) have learned as they go.
What are some things you do consistently every day? Good habits are usually just small modifications of something you’re already doing. Here are some I can think of that I or my clients have done in the past:
???? Grab a to-go coffee cup and take coffee from home instead of stopping.
???? Throw an apple in my bag to have if I want to mindlessly snack at work or in the vehicle.
???? Lay out my workout clothes in a hard-to-ignore place in case I’m tempted to skip the gym.
???? Even better – if I go to the gym after work, take my workout clothes with me to work, and quickly change before I head out for the day.
???? Text someone what your plan is for the day or week (that’s the type of check-in we often do with clients!).
???? Add a small practice that overlaps with something else you already do daily (write a quick gratitude entry in a journal right after brushing teeth).
These are incredibly simple tasks you can undertake with very little thought – though the first few weeks, it can take a decent amount of focus to not just go back to the ‘norm.
Make an alarm or calendar event, use sticky notes on the mirror – do whatever you have to do! But remember, you’ve implemented change before, and you can do it again. Yes, we’re creatures of habit, but we get to choose those habits.
